ALTERNATIVE FUELS FIRE SUPPRESSION SYMPOSIUM WAS A SUCCESS.

ANSUL® brought together experts in all disciplines of alternative fuels for a successful two-day information exchange.

Marinette, Wisconsin – November 7, 2007 – Ansul gathered an audience of top executives in ethanol production, key transporters, A & E firms, insurers and fire chiefs from municipal fire departments to educate them on fire suppression for alternative fuels. The Next Chapter of Alternative Fuels Fire Protection symposium was held October 16-17, 2007 at the ANSUL Fire Technology Center. The two-day event drew people from throughout the Midwest and the United States who have a direct impact on the future of alternative fuels. Ansul hosted the information exchange because of the need to advance the fire suppression knowledge base of those involved in this emerging industry.

The alternative fuels industry has seen tremendous growth over the past few years and it is anticipated to keep growing. The United States current ethanol domestic production is 6.4 billion gallons a year and that is projected to increase to 12.5 billion gallons a year by 2009. “The growth in the alternative fuels industry has sparked new challenges and new solutions and Ansul is committed to helping find those solutions,” said Dennis Kennedy, Vice President and General Manager, Engineered Systems/Foam Products. The panelists’ presentations and roundtable discussions touched on public safety issues related to the industry growth and more specifically to alternative fuels production, storage and transportation. All in attendance agreed that this one-of-a-kind symposium, bringing people with different disciplines and backgrounds together, created the dialogue needed to advance the safety issues in the alternative fuels industry.

The highly successful symposium was just the beginning, paving the way to make people and property safer from fire hazards when alternative fuels are involved. Healthy discussions by panelists and attendees included fire suppression standards, potential pitfalls and changes needed to evolve the level of preparedness and take it to the next stage. This two-way communication was the goal that Ansul was trying to achieve with the symposium. When the conversations stop, progress in this fast-changing industry also stops. Ansul plans to keep on talking.
